* advice from editors
* lots of examples of published essays and op-eds
* lots of links
* easiest short pieces to write and sell
* lots of lists of what to do and mistakes to avoid
* practical
* be timely and tie current events and people in to your writing (holiday, movie, scandal, etc.)
* practical assignments
Worst things:
* too many examples and links
* differing taste; I did not like most of the example essays and I would neither read nor write them
Recommended for writers serious about getting published in newspapers, magazines, and online. A strong place to start. The editors’ viewpoints strengthened the book’s credibility.
